JERUSALEM, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Basketball Association (IBBA) postponed 136 games scheduled for Tuesday due to the rocket attack from Gaza Strip toward south and central Israel.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli army killed Baha Abu al-Atta, a senior commander with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, in a predawn attack on his home in Gaza city.

In response, the group fired dozens of rockets on Israel, and as a result, cultural, entertainment and sports events were postponed.

Thus, the IBBA postponed all the games involving teams from central and southern Israel - even if they were planned to take place in the north.

One of the canceled games was between the Israeli champion Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Eilat in the Premier League.

In addition, three home games of Israeli teams in the European tournaments, scheduled for Wednesday, were still in doubt as of Tuesday evening.

One of them, between Israel's Ironi Ness Ziona and Kapfenberg Bulls in the Europe Cup, was rescheduled by FIBA for Thursday, but according to Israeli media, the Austrian team refuses to come to Israel.

The other two games scheduled for Wednesday are between Hapoel Holon and Spanish BAXI Manresa in the Champions League, and between Maccabi Rishon LeZion and Italy's Virtus Bologna in the Eurocup tournament.

It is still unclear whether two international soccer matches - Israel vs Poland in Euro 2020 qualifiers in Jerusalem on Saturday, and the friendly match between Argentina and Uruguay in Tel Aviv on November 18 - will be played as planned.
