BUENOS AIRES, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Claudio Ubeda has been sacked as manager of Boca Juniors after less than eight months in charge, the Argentine club said on Tuesday.
The announcement followed a 1-0 home defeat to Chile's Universidad Catolica last Thursday, a result that eliminated the Buenos Aires side from the Copa Libertadores before the knockout stage.
Ubeda led the team to 17 wins, seven draws and eight losses after his appointment last October.
Last month, Boca was eliminated from Argentina's Apertura tournament following a 3-2 home loss to Huracan in the round of 16.
South American football's major competitions are currently paused for the FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19. Boca will play its next match against Chilean side O'Higgins in the Copa Sudamericana on July 22. ■
