RIO DE JANEIRO, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Edenilson and Matheus Martins scored two goals each as Botafogo cruised to a 4-1 away win over Chapecoense in Brazil's Serie A on Saturday.
Edenilson struck either side of Martins' 14th-minute strike before Marcinho pulled a goal back for the hosts with a long-range effort into the top-right corner.
Martins restored his team's three-goal advantage when he combined with Joaquin Correa before drilling a low shot past goalkeeper Rafael Santos.
"There's a lot we can take from this," Botafogo manager Franclim Carvalho told a post-match news conference.
"We started very well but over the course of the match, we took our foot off the gas. We know we can't be satisfied with the way we played even though the result was positive."
Botafogo is now seventh in the 20-team standings with 16 points, eight ahead of 19th-placed Chapecoense.
In other Brazilian top-flight matches on Saturday, Cruzeiro won 2-0 at home to Gremio, Corinthians drew 0-0 at Vitoria and Vasco da Gama edged to a 2-1 home win over Sao Paulo. ■
