JERUSALEM, March 2 (Xinhua) -- EuroLeague Basketball said on Monday that two Round 30 games scheduled for Thursday have been suspended because of the security situation in the Middle East.
The affected games are Maccabi Tel Aviv against Hapoel Tel Aviv and Partizan Belgrade against Dubai Basketball.
"The games have been suspended due to the current situation in the region and the resulting inability to travel following the temporary closure of the airspace," EuroLeague said in a statement.
The league said it will work with the teams to determine options for rescheduling the games. It added that it will continue to monitor developments and remain in contact with local and international authorities and relevant organizations to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved, with further updates expected in the coming days.
Local media reported that Maccabi plans to host Hapoel at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade, where it played its home games until December last year amid earlier security concerns. ■
