NANJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Shenhua midfielder Wu Xi was named the 2025 Chinese Men's Footballer of the Year at a ceremony here on Monday, marking the second time he has claimed the annual honor.

The 37-year-old, who previously won the award in 2020, enjoyed an impressive season, making 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and delivering eight assists. Shanghai Shenhua finished second in last season's Chinese Super League (CSL).

"Last month marked my 37th birthday, and I am entering the final stage of my career. This award may be the last individual honor I receive as a player," Wu said. "As a senior player, I hope to contribute more to the team and set a positive example for younger players."

Forward Wang Shuang collected her fifth Women's Footballer of the Year award after helping Wuhan Jiangda FC lift the inaugural AFC Women's Champions League trophy.

Shao Jiayi, head coach of the China men's national team, was named Chinese Football Coach of the Year following his performance with Qingdao West Coast, who finished ninth in the CSL last season.

China's U23 national team received the Organizing Committee Special Award in recognition of their historic run to the final at the AFC U23 Asian Cup in January.

In addition, Liu Dianzuo of Chengdu Rongcheng was named Chinese Goalkeeper of the Year, while his young teammate Shuai Weihao earned the Chinese U17 Footballer of the Year award. Zhejiang FC forward Wang Yudong claimed the Chinese U21 Footballer of the Year honor. ■
